Besides enjoying the peace and quiet of Ecostay de IJsvogel itself there is plenty to see and do in the area. Across the river IJssel is the old “hanze” city of Kampen. Between the 12th and 16th century it flourished under the alliance of the “hanze verbond”. This powerful trade alliance led to fast development and wealth in the late middle ages. In the city there are still many things that remember to those golden times. There are several nice shops in the city, a theater, museums, a cinema, and in summer you can relax at one of the many terraces.
Different museums are the city museum, the tobacco museum, the museum farm and the three beautiful old city gates. At the riverfront the ships of the brown fleet have there home base. It is a massive fleet of authentic clippers and other old sailing boots. You can hire them to make a trip to the IJssellake, the Frisian lakes or even the Waddensea. But you can also just walk around to view them.
Between the Wederiklaan and the Flevoweg the Heemtuin is located. This garden is ecologically managed since 1980 and gives you a good impression of the flora and fauna of this region. The garden can be visited between sunrise and sunset. There are several beautiful hiking and biking routes to local villages. Wilsum, Zalk and also Elburg. Near Kampen is the Unesco World Heritage location: Schokland, island in the fields. This is a combination of natural and cultural history and symbolizes the Dutch fight and life with the water.
Within a radius of 25 km there are several national parks and natural areas: Bonenburg, de Dellen, de Haere, National Park de Weerribben, De Wieden, Kamperhoek, Urkerbos, Vogeleiland and Vreugderijkerwaard.
